Deflategate: The Tale Of Soft Balls
UPDATE: Ted Wells: “More probable than not” Patriots manipulated balls
Hear any good ball jokes lately?
By now I’m sure everyone has heard about Deflategate. On Thursday, Bill Belichick and Tom Brady addressed the Patriots latest scandal. Belichick spoke first.
I’m not totally sure, but I think Belichick is lying about something here. He’s a control freak. All successful coaches are. He’s the NFL’s answer to Ric Flair. In other words, he’s the dirtiest player in the game. He knows every obscure rule. Just ask John Harbaugh about eligible receivers. I find it hard to believe someone like him would not know how to give his Quarterback some kind of edge, and then make it happen.
Even if Bill Belichick didn’t know about the deflated balls, he should have. Remember when Roger Goodell suspended Sains Head Coach Sean Payton? Ignorance is not an excuse.
After Belichick’s denial, Tom Brady took the stage.
I’m not going to sugarcoat this. Tom Brady is full of shit. He wants people to believe that a control freak like himself (and his Head Coach) knew absolutely nothing about his balls being under-inflated to about 10.5 pounds per square inch (PSI). For him to say he had no idea what the condition of the balls he was throwing were in, is nonsense. Brady is so articulate about his game, he eats vegetable ice cream. I’m not saying he did the deed himself. Someone (or people) most likely helped him make sure his balls were missing 2 pounds per square inch. That’s right, other people know how Brady likes his balls. But Brady claims he’s not a cheater, and he knows nothing about this. Riiiiight, whatever you say. If Belichick didn’t do it, who did? The refs? Some rogue ball boy? Bridget Moynahan? I know you know Tom. You can’t fool me. Quarterbacks are extremely picky when it comes to their balls. Isn’t that right Mark Brunell?
Dry your eyes Mark.
People (mostly Patriots fans) who say New England would have beaten Indianapolis anyway are missing the point. The Patriots cheated when they didn’t have to. It’s no different than Richard Nixon and Watergate. He was going to win regardless, but he had to be punished for what he did. Also, you have to be a few 40 ounces short of a gangsta gangster party to think this is the first time the Patriots were doing this. The AFC Divisional playoff game against the Ravens was not a blow out. Think about it. How long have the Patriots been doing this? Riddle me that Batman.
Spygate in 2007 was a big deal. Let’s call that a felony. Deflategate is more of a misdemeanor. The New England Patriots just violated their parole. Rodger Goodell should bring down the hammer.
I never understood interventions. What’s the point of being told you drink too much from a room full of reasons why you drink in the first place?
