Apple Developing iPod Cell Phone?
After the immense success of the first generation iPod, the iPod nano and the video iPod, Apple Computer is reportedly looking to release an iPod phone.
Rumors have long circulated that Apple would release a new iPod which also would serve as a phone. According to The NY Post, earlier this week, a high ranked executive at Apple suggested that they were attempting to craft a device combining a mobile phone and music player.
"We don't think that the phones that are available today make the best music players," Apple Finance Chief, Peter Oppenheimer, told analysts. "We're not sitting around and doing nothing."
Word is Apple recently filed to trademark "mobile me" this past January, which could be an indication of its plans to release an Ipod mobile.
Apple is presently the top seller for portable music players. Revenues generated by iPods, iPod accessories and iTunes downloads represent 45% of their sales. Despite impressive numbers, Apple's shares are down 16% this year. Analysts familiar with the company say the phone could be launched next year. Apple reps didn't return calls for comment.
