  • Lord of the Rings Directior sues New Line over game licensing

Earlier today it was announced that Peter Jackson, director of the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy, is suing New Line for the greater share of the licensing profits for Fellowship of the Ring. The suit names New Line in having to pay for script and song lyrics use in a licensed Electronic Arts video game.

According to Jackson, the game is one of the most important things named in the 19 financial situations that are detailed within the lawsuit, though which game remains unclear. As many gamers know, EA has milked the Lord of the Rings game franchise for all that it's worth, but interestingly enough, only Vivendi's Fellowship of the Ring title, based on the book rather than the movie, details the first story (Correct me if I'm wrong, rabid LOTR fans. I haven't played any of the video games and this is what it says in the article I'm reading).

New Line has made no comment thus far, but Jackson's Lawyer, Peter Nelson, had said that New Line did try to offer a settlement through normal auditing means, but that it had proved "unsatisfactory thus far." Currently, Jackson is hot at work on the remake of King Kong, which Ubisoft currently has the rights to make into a video game.
