A Shanghai gamer who plays a MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game) stabbed his competitor to death recently after said competitor sold the sword that the two jointly won. Qiu Chengwei, 41, stabbed Zhu Caoyuan in the chest multiple times after he discovered that Zhu had sold the dragon sabre that both had won together in the game The Legend of Mir 3.
The weapon was lent to Zhu, and then sold for a hefty 7,200 RMB (a little over $800 USD), and Qiu went to the police, who then told him they could not help him because the sword was online property not protected by law. Zhu apparently agreed to hand over part of the money but Qiu lost patience and stabbed Zhu in the left chest with great force, killing him.
