Some would think that now that Electronic Arts owns exclusive rights to all NFL, NCAA, and AFL games, they'd be content to just rest on their laurels. However, according to the latest issue of Game Informer magazine, that's not so. Apparently, EA is well aware what people are thinking, and because of this pressure, they're trying to make this year's games much better than ever.
Madden:
Madden NFL 2006 will have a new feature called "Vision Passing." QBs will now have to scan the field by using the right analog (PS2) or left & right triggers (Xbox). The QB's field of vision will be shown by a cone-shaped display. The size of the cone will depend on the QB's awareness rating. QBs will only be able to throw to receivers who are inside the cone; that means no more running to the right sideline and throwing to a receiver on the left sideline who you can't even see on the screen.
As a QB drops back, the cone will narrow, naturally making it harder to complete deeper passes. The closer a receiver is to the center of the cone; the better chance he has of catching the ball.
NCAA Football:
NCAA Football 2006's big feature is called "Become A Legend." Fresh out of high school, you (or more accurately, your created player) must compete with other hopefuls for college scholarships. You'll take part in a bunch of drills (similar to Madden's), and your performance will determine which colleges will offer you scholarships.
When it comes to the actual games, you'll receive a stat boost if you choose to take the role of your created player, but you don't have to. Your ultimate goal is to receive the Hesiman trophy at the end of the year.
Also in this mode, you'll have a dorm room, which you can fill with rewards. Basically, think ESPN NFL 2K5's "Crib."
One neat thing owners of both games can do is import their player from NCAA into Madden 2006 and hope to get selected high in the draft.
Both games will of course feature improved graphics and animations. The PS2 and Xbox version will have online play, and all versions (presumably, PS2, Xbox, and GameCube) of both games should be coming out sometime in August.
