  • Democrat Janice Hanh Files Complaint With FEC Over Hip-Hop Themed Ad Attack

    [YT]bv_WG0v_kO0[/YT]

A conservative political action committee (PAC) named Turn Right USA is being criticized for a Hip-Hop themed ad that attacks Los Angeles City Council member Janice Hahn.

Democratic Los Angeles City council member Janice Hahn is running against Republican Craig Huey to represent California's 36th Congressional District.

Hahn officially filed a complaint with that Federal Election Commission (FEC) over the Hip-Hop themed video, which features rappers dressed as gang members, along with a stripper, who use explicit language, toss money at the woman and point assault rifles.

During the video, Hahn's face is superimposed on the strippers face and butt, while one of the men shoves his assault rifle into the woman's derrière.

Both Democrats and some Republicans have denounced the advertisement.

The National Organization of Women spoke out against the ad, which the organization labeled "abusive" and "harmful."

"This video is outrageous. Sexist ads like this are one of the reasons more women don't run for political office," NOW President Terry O'Neill said in a statement. "Every candidate must make clear to their funders and their supporters (and not with a wink-wink) that sexism and racism are not acceptable campaign tactics. These types of abusive attacks aren't just harmful to candidates like Janice Hahn, but to all women."

Hahn's complaint with the FEC demands that the Republican hierarchy disclose the direct and indirect funding sources behind Turn Right USA, which is a "super PAC" that can raise unlimited funds without disclosing the identities of the donors.

Turn Right USA has admitted that a former volunteer for Republican Craig Huey is associated with the company.

"The GOP can't simply shrug its shoulders and claim ignorance about this ad," O'Neill continued. "The party now has a woman running for president and another high-profile woman who may also jump into the race. In the past couple years, conservatives have received a crash course in what it's like to have gender stereotypes and sexist slurs directed at women on their side of the aisle. NOW encourages all of the 2012 presidential candidates to take this opportunity to draw the line and not only condemn this type of bigoted campaigning, but also insist their party withhold all support for any candidate who stands to benefit from it -- in this case, Janice Hahn's Republican opponent."

Democrat Janice Hahn and Republican Craig Huey are scheduled to face off against each other for the 36th Congressional District seat on July 12th.
