A number of well respected physicians have signed on board to provide expert care to the young Chicago athletes who take part in Snoop Dogg's Snoop Youth Football League (SYFL).
Dr. Josh Blomgren, Internal Sports Medicine physician at Midwest Orthopaedics at Rush (MOR), will serve as head physician to the SYFL.
The physicians at MOR are known for providing expert care to Chicago's professional athletic teams.
Not only will the physicians provide medical coverage to the athletes aged 7 to 14, they will also provide mentoring services within the scholastic arm of the SYFL.
“We’re excited about the opportunity to give inner city youth exposure to the best medical care possible while at the same time opening their minds to the various career options within the sports industry," said Tonja Styles, President of SYFL Chicago. "SYFL is committed to developing student athletes.”
In addition to the physicians at MOR, the SYFL has partnered with Zenith Helmets to provide proper concussion prevention equipment for the young athletes who play in the league.
Snoop Dogg launched the Snoop Youth Football League in 2004, in Los Angeles.
The Chicago division was launched this year, in response to the youth violence that has plagued the city for the past decade.
The Chicago division of the SYFL opens this August with seven chapters representing Humboldt Park, Pilsen, Little Village, Bridgeport, Cabrini Green, the West the South and the North sides of the city.
