  • Violence Erupts Between NYPD & Fans After Pete Rock Album Release Party

    [YT]M6qzWsNhJqw[/YT]

The NYPD isn't always liked by hip-hop fans and/or artists, and the way things went down at the album release party for Pete Rock and Smif-N-Wessun's Monumental on Monday (June 27), it doesn't seem to be getting any better.

According to Gothamist.com, police clashed with patrons outside of Tammany Hall in New York City's Lower East Side earlier this week, resulting in arrests and -- if videos are accurate -- police brutality.

Apparently, a fight broke out outside the venue, which resulted in police being called. When they finally arrived, authorities decided to shut down the event ... and that's when things got ugly.

Some reports said Pete Rock and his wife ad daughter were attacked as part of the chaos, but that seems to be untrue.

The legendary producer responded on Twitter (@ChocBoyWunda), letting people know he was ok.

"EVERYBODY IM GOOD, IM WAITING 4 MY MAN TO COME OUT OF DA PRECINCT! COPS WERE BEATING PEOPLE UP AND ITS ALL ON FILM!!!!," Rock tweeted.

Videos has since made their way to the internet, which show angry patrons yelling at police, right before a fan is seen being beaten on the sidewalk. As the early 9-minute clip continues, police officers get into numerous confrontations with people they were ordering to clear the street.

Mid-way through an officer is scene swinging his nightstick at Rock of Heltah Skeltah. Louieville Sluggah of rap group OGC was also reportedly involved in an altercation that sent him to the hospital because of his injuries.
