  • Eminem Sets Digital Album Sales Mark With 'Recovery', Surpasses 1 Million

Since breaking onto the scene in the late 1990s, Eminem has gone on to become one of the best-selling hip-hop artists ever, selling more than the late-great Tupac Shakur over his long career.

Most recently, the Detroit rapper added another accomplishment into the record books, when he become the first artist ever to sell one million digital copies of an album in the U.S.

His 2010 album Recovery, which was the best-selling album of 2010, moved past the one million digital mark this week. Altogether, its sold over 5.7 million copies worldwide.

The record-breaking feat comes only weeks after Em debuted at #1 with his collaborative EP with Royce Da 5'9, titled Hell: The Sequel. It gave Em his second #1 album within a 12-month period, the first time in the last five years an artist has done that.

"Recovery selling one million digital albums is an incredible achievement by an incredible artist," stated Interscope Records' Vice Chairman, Steve Berman. "I have had the pleasure of working with Eminem throughout the course of his career, and I'm delighted to be a part of yet another milestone on his amazing journey."

"Over the years we've made a concerted effort to engage Em's online fan base, so this achievement is especially rewarding," added Em's longtime manager, Paul Rosenberg. "Eminem made an amazing album with Recovery and the fans responded in record numbers."

Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" was the first single to pass the 1-million mark for paid digital downloads back in 2005.
