  • Waffle House Shoots Down Rapper's 'Waffle House' Hip-Hop Song

Upcoming Florida rapper has been forced to change the name of the song after he received a cease and desist from lawyers representing the Waffle House.

J.R. Bricks recently signed with Block Starz Music LLC, a German-American digital imprint that was reportedly bought by Jay-Z's Roc Nation in April.

This single, previously titled “Waffle House," drew the unwanted attention of the legal counsel for WH Capital, LLC and Waffle House Inc., the owners and licensee of the Waffle House trademarks.

The lawyers sent off a cease and desist letter, claiming J.R. Bricks was improperly using the restaurant chain's image without proper permission.

The rapper offered to change the name of the song to "Wafflehaus (After the Club)," but the alternative spelling was also rejected by the chain's legal counsel.

"I don't think Waffle House's actions were motivated by racial discrimination," said J.R. Bricks, a Havana, Florida native and United States Air Force veteran now based in Atlanta, GA.

"But I do believe it is based on cultural discrimination," J.R. Bricks said. "I don't believe they want to see their company associated with the Hip-Hop lifestyle. The song portrays what we do in the South after we tear it down at the club. I don't speak on violence in the record. I just speak on having a good time."

J.R. Bricks is one of several upcoming rappers nominated for “Best Southern Rapper” at the 2011 Underground Music Awards, which takes place on August 21st, at BB Kings in New York City.

J.R. Brick's "After The Club" is available from Block Starz Music on iTunes now.
