Despite being incarcerated, Ja Rule's music career continues without him, thanks to the hard work he put in before he began serving his sentence.
His next project set to drop is Pain is Love 2, the sequel to his 2001 album of the same title, which eventually went six times platinum and boasted numerous hit singles.
The forthcoming album, now due out in October, was originally intended for release on June 7th, the day before he began serving a two-year bid for weapons possession. But, in the weeks leading up to the album's release, the rapper couldn't make the recording deadlines, so plans changed.
Producer 7 Aurelius explained what happened in a recent interview with Murder Inc fansite, MIO, saying Ja wanted to focus on making better records, so he couldn't turn in a final cut to Fontana in time to meet the intended release date.
"The plan changed mostly because of the level and quality of the records we were making," 7 explained. "We have exhausted every possible way to have it available on iTunes for pre-order on the 7th. The main issue is that Fontana needs the album turned in before they will release a date, or even start their process which is normally sixty days for digital and hard copy."
The producer said he and the rapper worked very hard on Pain Is Love 2, and wanted to make every record was up to par. Rushing it to meet a deadline was not an option.
"Me and Rule have to capture all the magic around us until he goes in, otherwise we are doing an injustice to his fans," said 7. He goes on to call the LP Ja's "most provocative and his most personal album to date."
"If we had stopped in April, just to be able to turn it in to Fontana for a June 7 date, PIL2 would not be what it is now," he added. "They have acknowledged that because it's Ja Rule, they will give it a fast track release once it is turned in and that would be digital and hard copy."
So, the new release date for PIL2 is October 11th.
Ja also filmed a music video for his single, "Real Life Fantasy," with famed director Hype Williams before his incarceration. It's yet to be released.
"You can't rush art," 7 concluded. "Be patient and stay positive. We will not disappoint."
