Pioneering Run–DMC group member Darryl “DMC” McDaniels has been appointed to the Board of Directors of The Garden of Dreams Foundation.
The Garden of Dreams Foundation is a nonprofit organization that was founded in 2006, to work with Madison Square Garden Company, the New York Knicks, the New York Rangers and Radio City Music Hall, to make dreams come true for children who face obstacles.
Through the Garden of Dreams Foundation, children are offered unparalleled access to celebrities, athletes, and other inspirational figures.
DMC, who is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member, joins other Garden of Dreams Foundation board members Whoopi Goldberg, Matthew Modine and restaurateur Drew Nieporent, among others.
Over the past year, DMC has worked closely with the foundation at a number of events including “Fuse Rocks the Classroom,” the MSG Entertainment Talent Show and Dream Week.
“I am thrilled to serve as a Board member for an organization that makes such a profound impact on children,” DMC told AllHipHop.com in a statement. “I have participated in a few of their many events and have seen first-hand that Garden of Dreams gives children a chance to explore their dreams and exposes them to opportunities they would not experience anywhere else.”
DMC will help organize and take part in events for a number of children related organizations, including hospitals, foster organizations, homeless shelters and “wish” organizations.
DMC began working with children years before he earned an Emmy Award for his documentary “DMC: My Adoption Journey,” which chronicled his search for his real parents, after learning he was adopted, as a grown man.
“Darryl McDaniels is not only a music legend, but a true leader and role model with the work he does to help children,” said Hank Ratner, Chairman, Garden of Dreams Foundation and President & CEO, The Madison Square Garden Company. “Darryl’s work in the community is extensive, making him a perfect fit to become a key part of our Foundation.
