Two of the music industry's most influential managers/executives have teamed with music industry veteran Larry Mestel to create a new talent management firm.
Violator Management CEO Chris Lighty and music manager Michael “Blue” Williams have formed Primary Violator with Larry Mestel, whose company Primary Wave Music is one of the largest independent music, publishing, marketing and branding firms.
The three partners have worked with a wide variety of groundbreaking artists, including 50 Cent, Sean “Diddy” Combs, LL Cool J, Mariah Carey, The Rolling Stones, Janet Jackson, Lenny Kravitz, Jimmy Buffett, Carlos Santana, Hall & Oates, Def Leppard, Outkast, Queen Latifah, Macy Gray, Nick Cannon, Jagged Edge, Monica, and numerous others.
“I am excited to launch Primary Violator with two of the most talented and respected executives in the industry," Chris Lighty said. "The music business is all about innovation and this strategic partnership will create a more diversified company, which will bring forth a wealth of opportunities for our clients."
In addition to artist management, the new company will provide other services for artists, via Primary Wave's in-house branding arms, Brand Synergy Group, BrightShop and Chris Lighty's Brand Asset Group.
“Teaming Chris Lighty and Blue Williams creates the most powerful, intelligent and hardworking pop culture management team in the music business,” added Larry Mestel, Founder & CEO of Primary Wave Music. “It’s an honor for Primary Wave to team up with Chris and his staff.”
As the CEO of Violator, Chris Lighty has helped monetize the careers of a number of platinum artists, including LL Cool J, Diggy Simmons, Missy Elliott and others.
His company also oversaw and helped orchestrate the sale of 50 Cent's stock in Vitamin Water, for over $100 million dollars.
Michael "Blue" Williams is an industry veteran who has helped build out Queen Latifah's Flavor Unit Management arm before founding his management company, Family Tree.
Family Tree helped usher in the sound of Atlanta in the mid 1990's, where artists like Outkast, Youngbloodz, Goodie MOB and others benefited from his management expertise.
“Our goal is to make sure that our client’s artistic exposure is as diverse as their artistic expressions, whether it's through music, art, film, or TV and by combining forces with these industry leaders, I’m confident that we can bring great opportunities to our artists”, said Blue Williams, President of Primary Wave Talent Management.
Larry Mestel, who has held stints as CEO at Island Records as Virgin Records, runs Primary Wave Music.
The company owns interests in a number of lucrative songs by The Beatles, Earth Wind and Fire, Nirvana, Elton John, Def Leppard, The New Boyz and others, while the company manages the careers of Cee Lo, Eric Benet, Cody Simpson and others.
