Jazzy hip-hop group Digable Planets have officially reunited and are preparing for a new tour and album.
Sources confirmed to AllHipHop.com that original group members Butterfly, Cee Knowledge and Lady Mecca are back together, planning a comeback for 2012.
Digable Planets struck platinum in 1993 with their album Reachin’ (A New Refutation of Time and Space.
The album produced songs like “Nickle Bags” and the Top 20 single “Rebirth of Slick (Cool Like Dat),” which earned the group a Grammy Award.
Digable Planets parted ways alost 18 years ago, shortly after the release of their critically acclaimed 1994 album Blowout Comb.
During their hiatus, each member pursued different projects.
Butterfly formed the Neo-soul group Cherrywine, Cee Knowledge fronted the Cosmic Funk Orchestra.
Lady Mecca released several solo projects and was featured on the “Baby Loves Hip-Hop” children’s CD’s.
Digable Planets’ new tour itinerary is currently being finalized, while a release date or title was not available for the group’s album of new material as of press time.
