BET’s hit countdown show “106 & Park” will launch a new segment during the show, dedicated to the art of rapping.
“The BackRoom” section will feature rappers freestyling and dropping verses over exclusive beats.
This segment is similar to “The Booth,” which was featured on “Rap City,” which BET canceled and ask of why.
“The BackRoom is the place where freestyle will reign,” said Stephen Hill, president of music programming and specials, BET Networks. “Truth is, we’ve missed having a place like ‘Rap City’s’ ‘The Booth’ and now we’ve got it. In The Backroom, it doesn’t matter if you’re famous or not. You just have to be a skilled emcee.”
Def Jam recording artist 2 Chainz will be the first rapper to be featured in “The BackRoom.”
The new segment will launch this Friday (May 18) on “106 & Park.”
