  • Hip-Hop Telethon Coming To Apollo

Nas, Ludacris, Bubba Sparxxx, Outkast producer Mr. DJ and others have signed on for "The Hip-Hop Homecoming Celebration 2004," which will include what is being billed as Hip-Hop's first telethon.

New York's world-famous Apollo Theater will be transformed into a Hip-Hop museum celebrating the last 25 years of Hip-Hop in August.

A live television broadcast of the Hip-Hop telethon will take place the same day, aimed at raising money to benefit youth and education programs.

During the day, Jam Master Jay will be inducted into the Hip-Hop Hall of Fame, pioneers will be honored and a tribute to Eazy-E, Big Pun, Scott La Rock, Tupac, Biggie and others will take place.

"Monumental reunions will occur between acts that have not performed together in years, and infamous MC battles of old will be recreated in the name of memorializing a cultural heritage for generations of young visionaries," Publicist Shemia Miller said in a statement. "The performances will earn money for various inner-city music education programs nationally to help keep the movement alive."

"The Hip-Hop Homecoming Celebration" takes place August 19, 2004.
