  • Nas Comments On New Single With His Father

Nas and his father Olu Dara, Mississippi jazz legend, have joined musical forces on the blues inspired song, “Bridging The Gap,” taken from Nas’ upcoming double CD, Street Disciple.

The song comes at a point where Nas said he finally has peace in his life.

“Working with my pops is the greatest thing I have ever done,” Nas told AllHipHop.com. “It’s at a place in my life where everything is beautiful. This song [“Bridging the Gap”] song is important for a father/son relationship, because there is a big lack of that in the Black community and the music family.”

Dara, a member of the Mississippi music Hall of Fame, said the song evoked memories of his rapping son’s childhood.

“I think about Nas and his brother Jungle when they were little, little people – about 4, 5 or 6 years old. We used to mess around the house playing with all kinds of indigenous instruments. I’d play the blues on a 2-string guitar. My little blues and their rap thing – it all started there many years ago. We just discussed it and one day Nas called and said, ‘It’s time.’”

The first national television performance of the song will air October 12th on VH1’s Hip-Hop Honors special, while a video for the single will be released October 18th to major outlets.

The two first collaborated on Nas’ classic debut, Illmatic. Dara played the trumpet solo on the track “Life’s a Bitch.”

Street Disciple is Nas’ seventh album. The double CD hits stores November 30th.
