Los Angeles detectives are reportedly negotiating the surrender of G-Unit rapper Young Buck, wanted for allegedly stabbing a man at the Vibe Awards (click here for Young Buck Sought In Vibe Awards Stabbing) in Santa Monica, police said Thursday (Nov. 18).
According to Lt. Frank Fabrega, detectives contacted Buck’s attorney in New York, Scott Leemon, who issued a press release stating that Buck, born David Darnell Brown, would "surrender in the near future and then be released on bail." An agreement had not yet been reached at press time. Leemon also represented G-Unit rapper Tony Yayo in a federal case.
Buck's mother, Audrey Horn, said that she had not communicated with Buck but that she was sure he would turn himself in, according to reports.
Authorities issued a warrant for Buck’s arrest following a stabbing incident on Monday (Nov. 15) at the Santa Monica Airport where the Vibe Awards took place. According to police, Buck, 23, stabbed parolee Jimmy James Johnson, after Johnson allegedly punched rapper/producer Dr. Dre prior to Dre receiving a lifetime achievement award.
Johnson was in stable condition Wednesday (Nov. 17) from a collapsed lung. Due to Johnson's physical condition, Fabrega said, police have not yet interviewed him. Investigators were also looking to name two other men seen holding knives in a videotape of the incident.
Speculations have risen that Dre’s rival and former Death Row associate Suge Knight, who attended the award show, set up the assault on Dre, though Knight has denied any involvement. Other rumors suggest it was a gang initiation.
Police have not offered any motive for the attack on Dre.
