  • Luda Bumps Jay-Z & Linkin Park

Ludacris has no problem going toe-to-toe with his new boss, Jay-Z – on the charts.

Ludacris’ fourth album, Red Light District, sold an impressive 322,000 copies in its first week, bumping the newly appointed Def Jam president from the top slot on Billboard’s Top 200.

After a week atop the charts, MTV Ultimate Mash-Ups Presents Jay-Z/Linkin Park: Collision Course was shifted into the No. 2 slot after a week. The rock-fueled collaboration dipped down to No. 9, but still sold 186,000 units.

For Ludacris, this is the second time the A-Town rapper has made a debut at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 charts. According to Billboard, his 2003 album Chicken-N-Beer debuted at the top as well, but scanned 430,000 copies. His best selling album is Word of Mouf, which sold over 3 million since being released in 2001.

Cam’ron, Luda’s Def Jam labelmate, also debuted on Dec. 7 and the Harlem rapper’s Purple Haze hit the No. 20 slot. Cam’s second album via Def Jam/ Roc-A-Fella moved about 123,00 copies.
