The big news this week is that Esoteric has responded to the disses shot at him from Vast Aire on the "Dirty Magazine" mixtape, and the questionable lyrics spit by El-P on Aesop Rock's "We're Famous". Head over to http://www.demigodz.com/ to peep the seven-minute dis-fest.

After receiving rave reviews for his debut, Walls Don't Exist, Science Fiction returns with an EP, Broken Jazz, which features his stellar collabo with MF Doom "Hold On To". Broken Jazz is available now!!

Word is that Rawkus is prepping another posthumous Big L LP, Real Legends Don't Die, for a release next spring, with Lord Finesse serving as executive producer. Also, Finesse will also release his latest solo-endeavor, the long-delayed, The Underboss, next summer.

Columbia has set a 12-16-03 (to meet the Christmas rush) release date for the second installment of Nas' Lost Tapes. Look for some Dr. Dre produced tracks that were omitted from The Firm LP, remixes (Pete Rock remix of "One Love" f/ Sadat X), more flavor from the Nastradamus/I Am era and a few Large Professor produced tracks to be included.

Be on the lookout for a new mixtape, Crack, from Killer Mike to appear on 10-31-03.

After listening to Jeru The Damaja's Divine Design, doesn't it make you wish he and DJ Premier would iron out their differences. While the lyrics and concepts are there, after hearing how dope Jeru is on cuts like "Logical" and "War" it just reiterates how ill Jeru is when his production is up to snuff.

Add this to the must have promo item list - Prince Paul's "Diary Of Prince Paul" DVD. In promotion for his recently released album, Politics of The Business, Paul filmed a mockumentary done in the same fashion as MTV's Diary Of series. No spoilers here, but the DVD is hilarious. We currently are giving them away free (!) to heads that cop the Gang Starr The Ownerz Instrumentals CD/LP from us, but have only limited supply that will eventually run out.... Maybe Razor & Tie will release it commercially for everyone to peep..?

Former Outsidaz member, Pacewon, will release his still untitled sophomore effort in early 2004.

While "The Red" serves as a very dope B-Side for the Jaylib (Jay Dee & Madlib) project, if a more mainstream emcee would have gotten a hold of Jay Dee's beat, it may have set the clubs on fiyaahh!! Meanwhile, will the MadVillain (Madlib + MF Doom) project (MF Doom & Madlib) see release by year's end?

Street Heat of the Week... While we've already cast our vote for hip-hop's next superstars (ex: Little Brother, Apathy) another emcee that is certain to make some noise is Stat Quo, who may just follow in Ludacris' footsteps and become the latest emcee below the Mason Dixon line to make an impact. Stat's Underground Atlanta Mixtape Vol.2 shows that he can flip any style you want, and includes a three-part freestyle of sorts "The Future" over one of Dr. Dre's more rougher nods of late. It also shows why Stat is being heavily pursued by a number of labels, including Dre's AfterMath imprint.

Speaking of which, how good is DJ Vlad, DJ Green Lantern, and Dirty Harry's 2Pac: Rap Phenomenon 2 CD? One of the most creative mixes to come along in a while, the trio remixes classic 'Pac tracks with new beats, and even original guest verses from the likes of Busta Rhymes, Xzibit, Wyclef Jean, and others. This CD actually made Pizzo a 'Pac fan again. But the question remains - what emcee will Vlad & Harry tackle next? Will it be another posthumous emcee (Big L, Big Pun), or will they go after today's living legends (Nas, Jay-Z, Eminem)? And will they top Max Bedroom's Greatest Nas Mix Ever?!?!? They could be contenders!!

Twenty years after Run DMC's breakthrough debut on the Black Singles chart, Arista will pay tribute to the landmark trio with the release of a special two-disc CD and DVD package, Ultimate Run-DMC, on 10-28-03. This collection marks the first-time that a full-length 18-track anthology of Run-D.M.C. hit singles, definitive album tracks, and impossible-to-find rarities (including single B-sides and live material) has been coupled in one package with 14 of their memorable video clips. The entire set is made even more indispensable with the inclusion of a vintage mini-documentary on the group's long-time label Profile Records (acquired by Arista in 1999).
