This past weekend, a federal judge postponed The Notorious B.I.G. wrongful-death trial for lawyers to investigate a new tip that two corrupt police officers admitted to killing the rapper and that the LAPD covered up the information.
The Wallace family's attorney, Perry Sanders said the new information was acquired this past Thursday via a phonecall by a tipster believed to be a current or former Los Angeles Police Department officer. The tipster said he attended a police disciplinary hearing December 11, 2000, when two jailhouse informants shared that "they had information regarding confessions to this homicide" by incarcerated crooked cops David A. Mack and Rafael Perez, Sanders said.
According to Sanders, the caller, who identified himself as Frank, said the snitches "were advised to stop" speaking on the alleged confessions and the matter was kept under wraps. Mack is presently serving a 14-year prison sentence for armed robbery and Perez is serving time for his involvement in Los Angeles' Rampart police corruption scandal. The identities of the snitches, who were reportedly locked up with Perez, were not revealed, and there's no confirmation on the validity of their statements.
Police disciplinary hearings are taped and transcribed by a court reporter, therefore the judge ordered city attorneys to find records, share them with Biggie's family and report back today. The Wallace family is suing the City of Los Angeles and the LAPD, charging that Mack, serving as an agent for Marion "Suge" Knight's Death Row Records, murdered Big and that the LAPD covered up his actions. Unless Judge Florence Cooper calls for further delay, testimony is scheduled to resume tomorrow.
