  • Murder Inc Trial/Day 8: No Verdict, More Documents, More Drama

Anxiety set in as the jury was unable to reach a verdict yesterday in day eight of the Murder Inc. money laundering trial.

After nearly seven hours of deliberation, the twelve jurors comprised of four women and eight men asked to review several documents related to the case. Prior to the deliberation, Judge Edward Korman read instructions to the jury.

Irv Lorenzo "Gotti", wearing a navy blue suit and tie with a baby blue shirt and Chris Lorenzo "Gotti", sporting a grey suit and tie with a white shirt, looked poised. Yet, when the defense and prosecution approached the bench for over 30 minutes, the two brothers appeared worried.

Judge Korman emerged from the consultation and re-read three newly corrected parts of the jury instructions at the prosecution's request.

"They're trying to change the law, I mean..." a stunned Chris Lorenzo said, corrected himself regarding the prosecution's request to change jury instructions. However, The Inc. executive then shared that he was confident about the upcoming verdict.

Approximately three hours into the deliberation, the jury requested to analyze the testimonies of Donell Nichols and Jon Ragin as well as the back-up documents of the deposits made into some of The Inc.'s bank accounts. The two parties also discussed an issue concerning jurors mixing up their respective seats.

Judge Korman briefly resurfaced and consulted with a jury expert about the parties potentially submitting another summation. The expert then confirmed that the defense and prosecution could each be allowed to submit one last summation.

While both sides awaited further development, the Lorenzos, surrounded by their family and supporters, kept their cool, from time to time talking quietly amongst themselves. Apparently oblivious to the sober temperature in the courtroom, prosecutor Carolyn Pokorny laughed out loud at fellow prosecutor Sean Haran's jokes.

A slight confrontation ensued when, after hearing Pokorny's laughter, an elder male out of The Inc. camp excused himself and approached Pokorny, who was stepping out of the courtroom. Pokorny appeared startled, spilling a bit of her bottled water, before leaning in to hear the request - which was that she tone down her laughter. She then brushed the man off and proceeded to walk out of the court room after realizing the nature of the demand. Pokorny later complained to a court clerk, who then spoke with the man to prevent any further incident.

"This is a non-issue," a clerk was overhead telling one of the Lorenzo sisters. "I spoke to Carolyn [Pokorny] and she admitted she was wrong."

Meanwhile, Irv, Chris and family members sat in the court room as members of both parties walked in and out. Fans also came by to see if a verdict was reached, but were turned away by court security.

Nearly five hours into deliberation, the jury requested additional documents, including detective Anthony Castiglia's testimony, stipulations and the evidence found under Chris' desk at the Murder Inc. office. The defense then gathered in front of a computer to speculate on which jurors were asking the questions.

Ja Rule, producer 7 Aurelius, and Inc artists Lloyd and Cadillac Tah all made appearances to show support.

The day concluded with a clerk revealing that the jury asked for yet more documents. The specifics were not revealed.

The court is in recess until later on today when a verdict could be reached.
