  • 50 Cent... A Biter? Uncle Luke's Lawsuit Says So

50 Cent is facing a lawsuit charging that he borrowed lyrics for his 2003 banger "In Da Club" from an earlier song recorded by Miami rap legend Luther "Uncle Luke" Campbell.

Former 2 Live Crew member, Uncle Luke released the song in question "It's Your Birthday" on his 1994 solo album Still a Freak for Life.

According to the Associated Press, attorney Richard C. Wolfe filed a copyright infringement suit last week in Miami federal court on behalf of Lil' Jo Wein Music, which holds the copyright to "It's Your Birthday," charging that lyrics from the song were used for 50's hit single "In Da Club."

The lawsuit also alleges that 50 (born Curtis Jackson) uses another Luke song "I Like It, I Love It" in the 2003 DVD 50 Cent: The New Breed.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified damages in addition to legal costs including attorney's fees.

Wolfe previously won a $2.3 million judgment against Campbell in 1994 when another rapper claimed Luke withheld royalties.

Lil' Joe Wein Music holds the rights to many songs produced by Luke, as a solo artist as well as with his group 2 Live Crew. The company is owned by Joseph Weinberger, an attorney who formerly represented Luke.
