  • Jacob the Jeweler Sues Hip-Hop Producer To Settle Million Dollar Bill

Jacob the Jeweler has slapped Damon Thomas, one-half of the hip-hop production duo The Underdogs, with a $1.9 million lawsuit on Tuesday (February 14), claiming that the songwriter/producer owed Jacob & Co. around $2 million.

Jacob (born Jacob Arobo) is well known for providing hip-hop's biggest names with high-end custom jewelry and rare accessories.

According to the New York Post, Jacob's suit, which was filed by the store's lawyer Daniel Gotlin, claims that between May 2004 and May 2005, Thomas "purchased numerous pieces of jewelry" for "the agreed price and reasonable value of over $1,770,000."

The suit also claims that Thomas paid the store $820,000 but still owed $950,000. The complaint also notes that on June 21, Thomas also "borrowed various pieces of jewelry" worth $965,000 from the Jacob & Co. store, "and is either unwilling or unable to return any portion of the jewelry."

"I never received $950,000 worth of jewelry in my life," responded Thomas, when made aware of the allegations.

The producer called the accusations "a misunderstanding" and claimed that Jacob had mistaken him for an unidentified third person.

According to Gotlin, Jacob considered the disagreement "a private matter," and that there was "no mistake." The suit also claimed that Thomas was formally told about the debt in November and he "accepted the bill and at no time disagreed with or protested its accuracy."

At press time, both sides had managed to come to an undisclosed agreement.

"We resolved our differences with Mr. Thomas," Gotlin told The Post. "The lawsuit will be withdrawn today."
