  • Charity Sues Adidas Over Missy Elliott Campaign

Break the Cycle, a charity aimed at stopping domestic violence has filed a $10million lawsuit claiming that German sneaker giant Adidas improperly used its name and logo on its line of clothes endorsed by Missy Elliott.

The suit, which was filed in Manhattan federal court on Thursday (March 16), claims that Adidas used Break the Cycle's trademark, name or logo on more than 40 products in its Elliott's "Respect ME" clothing line without a formal agreement authorizing their use.

The suit also states Missy, who was a spokesperson for the charity, launched the clothing line in 2004 with an understanding that a percentage of the proceeds would be donated to Break the Cycle.

A U.S.-based spokesperson for Adidas could not immediately be reached for comment.

As SOHH previously reported, Adidas bought out Reebok for $3.8 billion in a bid to take on market leader Nike Inc. According to reports, the deal closed in January.

In related news, Elliot will be co-producing the score for the upcoming Disney film Stick It. Her third single "We Run This" from her album The Cookbook will also appear on the soundtrack to the movie.
