The suspect believed to have shot and killed Proof from the group D12 was charged yesterday (April 14) with the two weapon related felonies and not the rapper's death.
As previously reported, Proof (born Deshaun Holton) and Keith Bender got into a heated exchange at Triple C's nightclub early Tuesday morning (April 11) which lead to Proof both pistol-whipping and shooting Bender. Proof was then gunned down by Mario Etheridge, a bouncer at the Triple C's nightclub who was Bender's cousin.
Etheridge, who surrendered himself to police on Wednesday afternoon (April 12), accompanied by his attorney Randall Upshaw, has been charged with carrying a concealed weapon and discharge of a firearm in a dwelling or occupied structure.
Both charges are felonies and carry a maximum penalty of 9 years in prison combined.
"I am making a personal plea to the public to let the legal process take course," said Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy via a statement. "We do not want people taking the law into their own hands. The worst thing that could happen now would be to compound this situation by having anymore senseless deaths."
