  • Diddy Settles Bodyguard Beef, Ends 10 Year Court Battle

Sean "Diddy" Combs has reached a settlement with a North Carolina man who said bodyguards hired by the hip-hop mogul beat him after a concert in 1995.

Cedrick Bobby Lemon, a limousine driver, filed a lawsuit in May 2002 stating that he wore an identification badge that permitted him to stand backstage during a concert by Mary J. Blige, who was being managed by Combs at the time.

Following Blige's performance, Lemon claimed that two bodyguards, who were trying to clear the backstage area for the singer to leave Joel Coliseum, punched him in the head, kicked him in the back and broke his right ankle.

The suit stated that Combs was negligent because he failed to properly train the bodyguards.

Details of the confidential settlement reached Monday (May 16) were not released. According to Herman Stephens, Lemon's attorney, the two sides settled amicably. The aforementioned case has undergone years of legal wrangling.

In 2002, Judge William Z. Wood Jr. entered a default judgment against Combs for $2.45 million because he failed to answer the allegations outlined in Lemon's lawsuit within the legal timeframe. He would later reduce the settlement to $450,000.

In June 2004, the North Carolina Court of Appeals voided Wood's judgment and sent the case back to Forsyth County Superior Court.

In related news, Diddy was recently named one of Time Magazine's 100 Most Influential People. The mogul joined a list that included President George W. Bush, former President Bill Clinton, Microsoft CEO Bill Gates, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and NBC News anchor Katie Couric, among others.
