After months of speculation, RADIO ONE Urban KKBT (100.3 THE BEAT)/LOS ANGELES has moved to a self-described "Rhythm & Talk" format highlighting Urban AC artists like LUTHER VANDROSS, ANITA BAKER, ALICIA KEYS, PRINCE, TONI BRAXTON and MARY J. BLIGE as of midnight this morning (5/19). While still calling itself 100.3 THE BEAT, positioners like "LA's BEST R&B" and "TODAY's R&B & CLASSIC SOUL" are airing.
Says the press release: "The new format, which will engage 25-49 year old adults, takes the best music of Urban Adult Contemporary stations and adds compelling content delivered by proven national personalities TOM JOYNER, ANANDA LEWIS, MICHAEL BAISDEN and FREE." No word on exactly when JOYNER begins in morning drive.
100.3 THE BEAT PD TOM CALOCOCCI said, "This is the future of radio ... a proven musical formula combined with compelling, passionate, community minded hosts. It is the best of both worlds ... great music and content."
"I am looking forward to this music/content blend format differentiating us on the LOS ANGELES radio dial. It will give our clients and audience an environment that transcends all demographic groups," said GM SUE FREUND.
