Power 106 Los Angeles radio host Big Boy has been trying out a new east coast audience this week, auditioning his "Big Boy's Neighborhood" morning show for many of the Clear Channel stations that formerly broadcast the "Star & Buc Wild Morning Show."
According to Billboard Radio Monitor and radioandrecords.com, Big Boy (born Kurt Alexander) is testing syndication in Philadelphia; Miami; Hartford, CT; Richmond, VA; Augusta, GA and Savannah, GA; potentially solving the dilemma left by the ending of the "Star & Buc Wild Morning Show" after the recent firing of Star (born Troi Torain).
"Premiere Radio Networks is auditioning Big Boy for three days this week in several of our Clear Channel urban markets that were former Star and Buc Wild affiliates, except New York," Clear Channel Radio vice president of urban programming Doc Wynter told Billboard Radio Monitor.
Big Boy's test run began Wednesday (May 24) and ends today (May 26).
Star's former home station, Power 105.1 New York, has sbeen airing their morning broadcasts with BET personality Big Tigger and Power 105.1 on-air personality Egypt, who replaced "Star & Buc Wild" on May 14. Star was fired from the Clear Channel-owned station, and later criminally charged for threatening the welfare of the family of Hot 97's DJ Envy.
Big Boy has become one of urban radio's best known personalities while hosting at Power 106, and has also expanded his repertoire into film, earning screen time for Malibu's Most Wanted, Charlie's Angels 2 and Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. He currently also does voice-overs on the MTV's "Yo Momma."
