  • Eminem Settles Ringtone Lawsuit

Eminem's publishing companies have just settled a lawsuit with a company that sold the lyricist's songs as ringtones without authorization.

The suit was filed by Michigan-based Eight Mile Style and Martin Affiliated in U.S. District Court against five companies. The suit demanded an order to bar the companies from selling Slim Shady's songs on the internet without permission.

According to The Detroit News, Em's reps reached an undisclosed settlement with the Colorado-based company Cellus US last week. His reps also requested for U.S. District Court Judge Gerald E. Rosen to approve the deal. There's no word whether settlements were reached with the four other companies.

Mary Margaret O'Donnell, Cellus' attorney, revealed that Cellus agreed to cease distributing the ringtones, but she wouldn't say whether the company had to pay a sum to settle the suit. Meanwhile, one of Em's lawyers, Howard Hertz, claims the sales of unauthorized Em ringtones generates well over six figures annually.

"We reached an amicable agreement," Hertz told the News.

In related news, Em recently released new material via DJ Whoo Kid and Alchemist's The Re-Up mixtape. In addition to new Slim songs, the CD features new joints by Obie Trice, D12 and 50 Cent.
