EMI-Blackwood is suing Snoop Dogg for trying to release himself from a four -album contract he signed with the company.
According to New York Daily News, Snoop (born Calvin Broadus) filed a suit in Los Angeles Superior Court last month , claiming he could free himself from the aforementioned contract, under a California labor law that allows him to end the agreement after seven years.
EMI fired back by filing a lawsuit in Manhattan Supreme Court last week, arguing that Snoop still owes them two albums and that the agreement was signed in New York and only New York state laws apply.
Snoop's albums, Da Game Is To Be Sold Not To Be Told and Top Dogg were released under EMI.
Representatives for both parties did not comment on the suits when reached.
Snoop is currently working on his eighth solo album titled Blue Carpet Treatment. The album reportedly features contributions from Warren G, R. Kelly, Pharrell, Timbaland, will.i.am, James Ingram, Ne-Yo, Jermaine Dupri, Janet Jackson, Akon and Stevie Wonder.
Snoop is also working on a Blue Carpet Treatment animated film and a live-action movie titled "A Woman's Touch."
The release dates for the aforementioned projects have not been determined.
