Nas was joined by Jay-Z when he unveiled much of his newest album Hip-Hop is Dead during a New York listening session last night (November 9).
Greeting a standing room only crowd, many of them journalists, Nas introduced the album saying, "Hip-Hop is dead and everyone in this room is responsible for killing it," before revealing music from the highly anticipated December album Hip-Hop is Dead. The session, which was held at Sony Studios was attended by Hov as well as Swizz Beatz, Rodney Jerkins and soul singer Bilal.
Nas left the session early in order to make a promotional commitment at a local radio station, but not before introducing the first few songs on the album, including the Dr. Dre-produced "QB TRU G" featuring The Game. Other notable appearances on the album included Kanye West, Snoop Dogg and The Black Eyed Peas' will.i.am.
At one point during the listening Hot 97 New York DJ Mister Cee admonished talkative attendees to quiet down and listen, noting, "This shit is crazy!"
The listening closed with the standout track "Can't Forget About You" featuring Island Def Jam newcomer Chrisette Michele, who also blessed "Lost Ones" from Jay's forthcoming album Kingdom Come. Def Jam representatives who were present reminded the crowd that the version of Hip-Hop is Dead played at the listening is not the final album.
Hip-Hop is Dead is due December 19. The tracklisting from the listening session is listed below.
* QB Tru G
* Won't Go Back
* You Mean the World to Me
* Play on Playa
* Where Are They Now
* Carry On Tradition
* Hip Hop is Dead
* Still Dreamin
* Blunt Ashes
* Let There Be Light
* Can't Forget About You
