  • Busta Ordered To Pay $100K In '05 Assault Case

Busta Rhymes was recently ordered by a court-appointed referee to pay $100,000 in damages to a fan that he assaulted outside a New York sandwich shop in 2005.

Melvin Smith, a 37-year-old handy man from East Orange, NJ, filed a lawsuit in March 2006 claiming that Busta and his bodyguard Troy Green hit him for no reason when he asked for an autograph outside of the Corner Gourmet II deli in lower Manhattan.

According to Bruce Regenstreich, Smith's lawyer, who spoke to the New York Post, Busta and Green were found civilly liable for attacking his client. The assault left Smith with "serious bodily injuries," including "opening a cut on his eye that required four stitches" and forced him to lose work.

Green was charged criminally in the case, but Busta was not.

Busta was in court before a judge yesterday (January 4), where he was hit with yet another assault rap for allegedly punching out his ex-driver in a fight over 19 days' worth of back pay.

The rapper was set free on $3,500 bail after surrendering Wednesday night (January 3) and spending the night at Central Booking. He is due back in court on February 20.
