NYC Loses Graffiti War, Unable To Ban Spray Paint
The City of New York has lost another court battle in their fight to keep markers and spray paint out of the hands of 18-21 year olds.
According to New York's Daily News, a federal appeals court upheld a temporary order preventing the city from ticketing people between the ages of 18 and 21 found with spray paint and broad tipped markers.
Last April the group of seven high school and college students filed a lawsuit against New York City claiming that provisions to a graffiti law violated their First Amendment Rights.
The group, which was backed by Marc Ecko, prevailed in their suit in a Federal Court last June. Thursdays proceedings marked the city's most recent attempt to reverse that decision.
