  • Busta Offered Plea Deal In Assault Case, May Avoid Jail Time

A Manhattan judge offered Busta Rhymes a plea deal today (February 20) that would keep the Brooklyn bred rapper out of jail if he pleads guilty to two assault charges.

Busta (born Trevor Smith) was charged with assault in December for attacking his former driver, Eddie Hatchett, during a dispute over back pay. He is also charged for assaulting a fan who allegedly spit on his car in August.

According to New York's WCBS-TV, Manhattan Criminal Court Judge Tanya Kennedy told Busta he could plead guilty to third-degree assault and receive a conditional discharge.

If he accepts the judge's offer, Busta would be sentenced to five days of community service, two weeks of youth lectures, and six months of anger management classes. He would also be on probation for three years. If he failed to meet the conditions of the sentence or if he violated probation, he could go to jail for a year. Bus has until March 26 to accept Judge Kennedy's deal.
