Foxy Brown took the opportunity yesterday (February 26) to lash out at a South Florida beauty supply store owner as well as the local Pembroke Pines police force that arrested her two weeks ago.
According to New York's CBS 4 affiliate, Brown (born Inga Marchand) appeared in front of a crowd of cameras and reporters on Monday accompanied by her lawyers, family and fellow supporters in an effort to clear her name regarding an alleged incident that occurred at the Queen Beauty Supply shop.
Foxy was arrested by the Pembroke Pines, FL police after the rapper allegedly threw hair glue at a store employee after she was asked to leave because the store was closing. The rapper was also accused of allegedly spitting on a store employee and knocking down display shelves, which lead to her to be arrested and charged with battery and obstruction of justice.
During the impromptu press conference, Brown claimed that, contrary to reports, she was the victim in the altercation that occurred two weeks ago at the store.
"For the last week, I have been vilified in the media as assaulting a store owner," said Brown. "What the media fails to forget is there are always two sides to a story and perception isn't always reality."
Brown claims that she had only gone into the store to use the washroom and that the store owner entered the bathroom while she was still occupying it and demanded that she leave. She also claims that the employee refused to shut the washroom door so that she could get dressed. The Brooklyn-born MC also said that police did not attempt to properly evaluate the situation when they arrived on the scene and instead, "took her to the ground."
"The only crime I am guilty of committing is being a young black female celebrity in Broward County," said Brown. "I am the victim of an overzealous police department who engaged in police brutality and a money hungry store owner whose motives are for me to pay his mortgage on his house and his children's tuition."
The owner of the beauty supply store did not choose to comment on the advise of his attorney, but said they deny the allegations made by Brown. Though the rapper alluded to possible police brutality during the incident, she did not specifically address those claims. Her lawyer did say that they would in fact be filing formal charges against the department later in the week. Officials at the Pembroke Pines Police refused to respond to her statements and said they will "allow the case to proceed through the court system."
