Attorneys representing Snoop Dogg and Priority Records are reportedly considering a mediation to settle a breach of contract lawsuit that the California bred rapper brought against his former record label.
Snoop (born Calvin Broadus) sued Priority Records last year for $2 million in royalties. The rapper alleged that since EMI took over Priority, the label has failed to honor contracts. Priority Records has maintained the lawsuit should be barred because Snoop waited too long to file it.
According to the Associated Press, Kenneth D. Freundlich, Snoop's lawyer, said in court Monday (March 26) that a mediation was a good alternative to a trial, but that he must first get the rapper's approval.
Snoop still remains overseas despite the recent cancellation of his European tour with Sean "Diddy"Combs. The rapper's European trek was called off after British authorities refused to grant him a visa into their country, where he was scheduled to perform in various cities.
Freundlich also indicated that Snoop is willing to give a deposition to the company's attorneys.
"We're totally willing to make him available," Freundlich told the court during the brief hearing.
Superior Court Judge Robert Hess ordered both sides to return to court Aug. 27 for an update. If mediation fails, a trial could be scheduled.
