Des'ree, a British based singer, has filed a lawsuit against Beyonce alleging that the Houston bred crooner stole a song from her.
According to TMZ, Des'ree's suit, which was filed in Manhattan federal court on Wednesday (April 18), claims that Beyonce never obtained proper clearance to cover her song "I'm Kissing You."
The suit also contends that Beyonce, along with her record company, initially tried to work out a deal to use the song but when Des'ree disallowed them to change the title or make a video for the song, they ignored her terms and recorded the song and a video without permission.
Beyonce's version, titled "Still in Love (Kissing You)," is featured in the re-release of her sophomore album B'Day, while Des'ree's original was featured on the soundtrack 1996's Baz Luhrmann film, Romeo and Juliet.
Des'ree is suing to halt distribution of the song, video and album and seeking at least $150,000 in damages. Lawyers for Beyoncé and Des'ree couldn't be reached for comment.
