  • Al Sharpton Leads March of Decency in Music

In his continuous battle in the war on sexist, racist and homophobic rap lyrics, Reverend Al Sharpton will be co-leading a March of Decency in Music Thursday, May 3 in New York City.

Sharpton, who will be representing his National Action Network (NAN) will be leading the march with Tamika Mallory, Director of NAN's Decency Initiative and Councilwoman Darlene Mealy of Brooklyn's 41st District.

The march will kick off on May 3, James Brown's birthday, at 5:30 p.m. from Sony Music (55th St. and Madison Ave.) and make stops at the Warner Music Group Building (75 Rockefeller Plaza), Universal Music (49th St. and 8th Ave.) and the Time Warner Building (58th St. and Broadway). It's final stop, and rally location will be Columbus Circle.

"I think it is important that we make a strong appeal as consumers to demand standards that will not offend us or dehumanize us based on race, gender or any other category," Sharpton said via statement.

"I am leading this march as a mother and as a young black woman who is part of the hip-hop generation," Mallory added. "We must reshape the positive culture in music, and redefine images of women in media. We will no longer tolerate misogyny and racism as a mainstream form of entertainment for our children."
