Producers at Fox Searchlight Pictures have announced they will launch an open casting call to find an unknown actor to portray slain rapper Notorious B.I.G in his upcoming biopic.
According to the Associated Press, the currently untitled flick will focus on Biggie's private life. The producers had reportedly considered Academy Award winning actor Forest Whitaker (Last King Of Scotland) but unfortunately the actor is too old for the role.
B.I.G. (born Christopher Wallace) was gunned down in Los Angeles in 1997. He was 24 years-old.
"As it relates to the individual Christopher Wallace - his looks, his stature, what he represented, the swagger, the sensibility of the man - all those elements are very difficult to find, no matter where you go," explained Wayne Barrow , Biggie's former manager. "In the typical Hollywood world, no one came to mind outside of Forest Whitaker who could capture that essence genuinely."
Barrow also revealed that no real-life character in Biggie's life would play themselves in the flick due to the 10 year period of time that has passed since B.I.G.'s death.
Anyone can submit audition videos beginning at 3 a.m. ET on Sunday (August 12) to foxsearchlight.com/notorious or biggiecasting.com.
"There will only be one Christopher Wallace, but I'm happy that his legacy will open a door for another to walk through," Biggie's mother, Voletta Wallace, said via a statement. " I don't want you to just imitate him. I want to see his swagger, his style, his energy and smile come through."
Voletta Wallace, Barrow, and Mark Pitts, who also served as Biggie's manager, will produce the movie, which is expected to begin this fall.
