  • Kanye West Explains His Anger With MTV, Says Britney Was Exploited

"I really don't mess with MTV." That's Kanye West's latest words about how he feels about the network, after the channel didn't allow him to perform on the mainstage at their 2007 Video Music Awards.

In fact, West said that MTV is to blame for Britney Spears' sub par opening performance during the ceremony.

During an interview Tuesday (September 11), the rapper/producer, who dropped his new album Graduation today, explained why he is so upset with MTV (see "Kanye West Upset With MTV, Says He'll 'Never Return"), saying that he should of opened up the awards show instead of Spears.

"They were just trying to get ratings, and they knew she wasn't ready and they exploited her," West said on Sirius Satellite Radio's "The Morning Mash Up."

According to West, MTV made a "bad move" by having the pop star open Sunday's event (September 9) in Las Vegas. "They exploited her, they played me and I really don't mess with MTV," he said.

Spears has received lackluster reviews of her VMAs performance of her new song, "Gimmie More." During her set, Spears looked nervous and very unprepared.

West said that he should have opened with "Stronger" on the show's main stage, but instead was asked to host a suite party, which he agreed to.

But, after seeing Justin Timberlake close out the show on the mainstage, in addition to hosting a suite party as well, he was angry.

"Why do you have me do 'Stronger' in a suite, but you end the show with Justin?" he asked. "I looked at 50 like, 'yo, we need to help each other as much as possible.'"

Both West's Graduation album and 50 Cent's Curtis dropped Tuesday September 11th.
