The Prosecutors who originally blamed Remy Ma for the attempted murder of a friend reportedly dropped the charges to assault in a Manhattan Supreme Court on Wednesday (September 12), while also adding several new charges in connection with tampering with a witness.
According to the New York Daily News, authorities initially believed that Remy intentionally shot Makeda Barnes-Joseph in July, but new evidence has revealed that the gun may have gone off accidentally. Remy allegedly shot Barnes-Joseph twice in the torso after accusing her of stealing $3,000 out of her purse.
New charges were also handed to the Bronx bred rapper at the hearing, accusing her of assaulting the boyfriend of a possible witness in the case.
According to TMZ, on August 19 Remy apparently saw the boyfriend of a possible witness while at a club in the Bronx. Remy then allegedly had a group of her associates attack him, resulting in the man suffering a black eye and a fractured bone in his face. The man reportedly also had to get a metal plate put in his face and was required hospitalization for a week. A friend of the man was also injured, suffering a broken jaw.
Manhattan District Attorney Spokesman Edison Alban revealed that Remy is now facing charges of gang assault, tampering with a witness, intimidating a victim and third-degree assault as a result of the nightclub incident.
The Associated Press also reported that the judge presiding over Remy's case denied prosecutors' requests and ordered yesterday that the rapper would not have to post additional bail in light of her new assault charges.
The case has not gone in front of a grand jury as of yet due to slow progress in the investigation.
Remy's lawyer, Ira Fisher, has said that his client has pleaded not guilty to all charges. She is scheduled to be back in court on September 20.
