Jay-Z is currently putting the finishing touches on his tenth solo album titled "American Gangster," which is inspired by the upcoming flick of the same name starring Oscar Award winner Denzel Washington.
According to The New York Times, Jay-Z has revealed that the movie mirrored his drug dealing past and he has already crafted nine songs which are inspired by specific scenes in the movie.
"It was like I was watching the film, and putting it on pause, and giving a back story to the story," Jay-Z said. "Watching that film, it brought back all these memories. It took me back to those emotions."
"It immediately clicked with me," he continued. "Like Scarface or any one of those films, you take the good out of it, and you can see it as an inspiring film."
The album, which will not serve as the movie's official soundtrack, features a cut produced by Pharrell. Details of other producers or guest appearances were not revealed.
The movie American Gangster is based on the true story of 1970's drug kingpin Frank Lucas (played by Washington) who brought heroin into Harlem by sneaking it into the coffins of American soldiers coming home from Vietnam.
Along with Denzel, the movie also stars Russell Crowe, T.I. Common, RZA, Idris Elba, Chiwetel Ejiofor and CubaGooding Jr.

The movie's producer, Brian Grazer, had initially tapped Jay-Z to score the soundtrack but changed his mind because he felt his music would not give the flick an "an authentic 1970s feel." The official soundtrack will feature songs from Bobby Womack, The Staple Singers and Sam & Dave.
Jay-Z is expected to attend the movie's premiere and cross promotion deals are in the works. The trailer for American Gangster already features Jay-Z's song "Heart Of The City," off his album The Blueprint.
American Gangster, the movie, will open in theatres on November 2 while Jay-Z's project of the same name drops on November 6.
