  • Dr. Dre's Detox Not Coming Until '08

After legendary producer Dr. Dre appeared at the 2007 MTV VMAs, speculation about his on-again-off-again album, Detox, began to spread, due to the fact he said it was "coming baby," during his appearance.

His appearance alone and recent interviews sparked chatter as to whether it was dropping soon or even this year. In a recent feature piece by the Los Angeles Times, the super producer revealed that 2008 is the year of release for his final album, which he's been working on for the past seven years.

"I was really hoping to have it out this year, but it's going to have to be pushed back a while because of some other things I've got to work on," Dr. Dre told the paper. One of the projects he's referring to his Eminem's next project, which will keep Dre busy for the next few months.

But, as far as Detox is concerned he says he's nearly done -- about two or three tracks away from wrapping it up.

The rumors of it being his final album are true. Dre feels that part of his career needs to come to an end, while he continues to work behind the scenes.

"I think it's time to move on," he told the paper, calling rapping "a young man's game."

The move will also free him up to pursue other interests including films. He's recently signed a multiyear production pact with New Line Cinema, where he will team up with director Philip G. Atwell, and plans to begin scoring films and eventually directing.

"When I think of the future, I think a lot of Quincy Jones and how he is an inspiration," Dre said. "Look at the quality of his work over so many years. He didn't even make his best record, 'Thriller,' until he was 50.

"That gives me something to look forward to," he continued.

Another thing that got people talking after seeing Dre at the VMAs was his physical appearance. He was ripped, but according to Dre, that's another one of his addictions -- working out.

The producer explained that he had weighed as much as 270 pounds at one point, due to late night eating and partying, but that ended when he began to work out four years ago.

He revealed that he works out 2 1/2 hours every day, five days a week, a regimen that has slimmed him down to 220 pounds and cut his body fat from 29% to around 6%.

As far as Detox is concerned, Dre is firm about releasing it in 2008, but according to Interscope, there is no firm date for its release.
