  • Snoop Dogg Avoids Jail Time, Sentenced To 3 Years Probation For Weapons Charge

Snoop Dogg was reportedly sentenced to three years probation and 160 hours of community service yesterday (September 20) after pleading guilty to felony possession of a dangerous weapon.

Snoop (born Calvin Broadus) was stopped at the John Wayne International Airport last year when officers at the security checkpoint discovered a collapsible baton in his carry-on luggage. The baton, which Snoop said was a movie prop, expanded from 8 to 21 inches and was classified as a dangerous weapon to carry on a plane.

According to the Associated Press, Snoop's lawyer, Donald Etra, struck a plea deal which kept Snoop out of jail and his felony conviction will be reduced to a misdemeanor if he stays out of trouble.

Also as part of the plea deal, Snoop will have to make a $10,000 charitable donation.

"We are very pleased with the outcome," Etra said. "Snoop's goal is to make music, not make court appearances. He wants to get on with his life. He will continue his music and his filming and performing."

In related news, Snoop Dogg is currently working on a reality television series for E! Entertainment. The untitled series, which is expected to debut this year, will capture The Los Angeles bred rapper working in his studio and spending quality time with his family during half-hour episodes.
