  • Nas' Controversial Album Pushed Back To Next Year

After causing a stir in the mainstream media for his controversially titled forthcoming album, ******, it looks like folks will have to wait a little longer before hearing any of its music.

The new LP was expected to drop next month in time for the holiday season, but the rapper's camp has revealed to MTV that they have pushed it back. It is now planned for February: Black History Month.

Nas revealed that he will drop its first single in January, but over the weekend, a snippet of what was labeled a new Nas record called "What It Is" leaked to the Net.

"Racist neighbors flinchin'," he rhymes. "They don't know if I'mma rob them / Or if I'm Russell Simmons / They thought it was me, just like Mike Bivens / They pray for my downfall like the mom of Robin Givens."

But, this track doesn't look like it will make the album. MTV reports that Nas' camp says that the album's track list is still not final, and that "What It Is" will not be on the album.

In fact, he said that track was just his vocals over a random beat.

"I never rhymed to that beat," he told MTV.

Despite backlash from community leaders, Nas has the support of several of his peers and his label.

In October, Def Jam Chairman, L.A. Reid, responded to rumors that the label was not supporting Nas' choice of an album title, which was reported by FoxNews.com, saying that they stand by Nas and his decision.

"We support everything our artists do, everything!" Reid told MTV. "We stand firmly behind and beside our artists with pride and with pleasure. Anything Nas wants to do, I completely stand beside him. Nas is prolific, he's prophetic, he's a genius, an amazing artist of respect. So, while I'm not sure exactly all that [the title] entails, I know it's smart, so I stand behind him. That's real."

So far, producers on board for the project include DJ Toomp, Salaam Remi and Diddy.
