Former Diplomat emcee Max B. will most likely spend the rest of his life behind bars. The rapper, whose real name is Charly Wingate, was sentenced to 75 years in prison on Thursday for his role in a 2006 murder. In September 2006, Max B. and Kevin Leerdam attempted to rob Allan Plowden and David Taylor at a Holiday Inn. Taylor wound up being shot and killed during the attempted robbery. Max B. and co-defendant Kevin Leerdam were in a Hackensack, New Jersey courtroom Thursday where they were convicted of felony murder, kidnapping and armed robbery. For his role in the crime, Leerdam received a life sentence plus an additional 35 years.
Max B.'s ex-girlfriend, Gina Conway, helped plan the robbery, and testified against Wingate and Leerdam in June. Conway is now facing 18 years in prison. Max B. gained notoriety by co-writing Jim Jones' hit single "We Fly High," as well as several tracks on Jones' album "Harlem: Diary of a Summer." He has also released several mixtapes of his own.
