50 Cent has been making news for charity and other business ventures lately, but today, he hopes to bring attention back to his original hustle: music. To celebrate the ten-year anniversary of his seminal mixtape 50 Cent Is The Future, the G-Unit capo just droppedThe Big 10, a collection of all original music that also showcases his new G-Unit artists Paris and Kidd Kidd.
“I took influences from big hit records in the past, but I didn’t actually take the song[s],” 50 explained to MTV this week at a launch party for his SMS Audio headphones line. “…“There’s different things that might strike a chord with me to make me want to do something creatively, that the public just sees it as a new song or a new effort. But I have something else that makes it matter more to me.”
50 sounds grittier here than on more recent pop offerings like “Ayo Technonlogy.” Armed with beats by the likes of DJ Khalil, Jake One, !llmind and Scoop Deville, his old school fans will find what made them fall in love with him in the first place: great beat selection, imposing mic presence, and tough as nails rhymes. The guest appearances are from his two new G-Unit artists: a female rapper named Paris, and a seemingly rejuvenated Kidd Kidd (widely known for his verse on Lil Wayne’s “Ms. Officer”).
