Hip-Hop made a strong showing in the nominations for the Fifth Annual Black Reel Awards.
The event features 46 nominees in the film category. "Tupac: Ressurection," "The Italian Job" featuring Mos Def, and "S.W.A.T." featuring LL Cool J all earned nominations for Best Picture.
"I was proud of this years list of nominees," said Tim Gordon, Executive Director of the Black Reel Awards. "Our selection committee did a great job of highlighting performances that were ignored or passed over by other groups."
In the television category, over 28 nominees will compete for the top honors.
"Angels in America," will compete for Best Television film against "Sounder" "Good Fences" and "Deacons of Defense."
The ceremonies for the event take place February 24, 2004 in Washington, D.C.
