For some hours Monday, a hacker group "hijacked" the Twitter account of US-based news outfit Fox News, using its Twitter account to post fake messages, including those that claimed US President Barack Obama II was shot dead.
Several Twitter messages on Fox News' Twitter account indicated the hacker group, the "Script Kiddies," managed to post messages on Fox News' account using its own logo.
"Fox news politics hacked by the scrip tkiddies! http://t.co/6yZDcTS more embarrassment for FoxNews is imitate," said a Twitter message bearing Fox News' logo at about Monday noon (Manila time). It was, however, removed several hours later.
The SK group even offered to help AntiSec, a movement by hacktivist group Anonymous to hack into government and corporate sites, and to leak any data they get.
"(To) AnonymousIRC TheScriptKiddies would love to assist with #antisec in anyway you need assistance," the message read before it was removed.
But after a few minutes, the SK issued a tweet on Fox News' Twitter page indicating Twitter had suspended its account.
At about 2 p.m. (Manila time), Fox News tweeted that it had just "regained full access to our Twitter and email."
However, shortly after 2 p.m., the hackers appeared to have taken over Fox News' Twitter account again, posting items using Fox News' logo.
"@BarackObama has just passed. The President is dead. A sad 4th of July, indeed. President Barack Obama is dead," one of them read.
In another Twitter message, the group explained it used another Twitter account after its other account was suspended.
"Our old twitter was suspended @TheScriptKiddie here is the new, hopefully permanent address @FoxNewsPolitics just hacked," it said. - KBK, GMA News
